The KwaZulu-Natal SDGs Awards (kzn4SDG awards) were born to celebrate and honour individuals, companies and organisations which are actively involved in promoting sustainable development goals in line with the UN agenda 2030.
The SDGs (sustainable development goals) were unanimously agreed upon by all states aligned to the UN to protect the environment, fight social ills and promote economic sustainability.
In this light, Samuel Charandura and Samantha Charles co-founded the KZN SDG Awards to localise sustainable goals and reward those pursuing them. The awards are an initiative of Legalrico Foundation and TheCatalystDesk organisations, which are based in Pietermaritzburg and Durban respectively.
Anyone based in and who conducts operations in KwaZulu-Natal is eligible for entry. To allow everyone to participate, and vote, nominations and applications will also be done through Whatsapp, SMS and social network pages.
The awards, for now, are a non-event awards type and everything will be done online, says Charles.
Nominations/applications for this year open from Monday, February 18, to Monday, March 18. Nominees for different awards will be announced on April 27. Voting will commence after nominees are announced and winners will be announced in June. There are 17 categories for the awards and winners will be presented with certificates.
Each nomination or application will be reviewed by a panel of judges, comprising individuals in business, law, human rights and sustainability.
Nominations or applications for the awards will be done on the website www.kznsdgawards.co.za, the Facebook page KwaZulu-Natal SDG Awards (currently active) and on twitter, @kzn4sdgs awards. The website will be up and running before the nominations open.
