St Johns DSG Staff taking on the iconic Comrades Marathon
This year, 6 St John’s D.S.G. staff members taking part in The Comrades Marathon. They are Mr Mdumiseni Zondi (Landscaper), Mr Sanele Malunga (Landscaper), Mr Thumelani “Derek” Mweli (Security), Mrs Sarah Cole-Edwardes (Head of Marketing), Mrs Naomi Hardman (Business Manager) and Mr Innocent “Siyazi” Ndebele (Maintenance Supervisor).
Mr Mweli, Mrs Hardman and Mrs Cole-Edwardes are first-time runners, and they are all feeling nervous, yet excited for “The Ultimate Human Race”. Mr Ndebele has completed 8 Comrades Marathons, and Mr Zondi has completed 11! Mr Malunga will be running his second race on Sunday and is aiming for a silver medal – last year, he missed it by 42 seconds!

St Johns DSG Runners spotted by Eaglets
Five St John’s D.S.G. staff members felt like celebrities this week when they were spotted by the Grade R Eaglets! (From left to right) Thumelani “Derek” Mweli, Sarah Cole-Edwardes, Naomi Hardman, Sanele Malunga and Mdumiseni Zondi are all running the Comrades Marathon on Sunday and the Grade Rs, who have been learning all about “The Ultimate Human Race”, were incredibly excited to get a photo with their heroes!
St John’s DSG girls selected for KZN Inland Hockey
Seventeen St John’s D.S.G. girls were recently selected for KZN Inland Hockey teams. St Johns DSG learners head off on Exchange
Three very excited St John’s D.S.G. Grade 6 pupils (from left to right: Jessica Dickason, Kate Foss and Kiara Rampersad) recently left on a two-week Exchange Programme to St Piran’s Independent Prep. School in Maidenhead, United Kingdom. “I think it will be an amazing experience,” Jessica said, before she left. We hope it will be!
St John’s DSG Eaglet celebrates her birthday
St John’s D.S.G. Grade R Eaglet, Zesihe Ndlela recently celebrated her 6th birthday. When asked by her mother what cupcakes she would like, Zesihe insisted that she would like St John’s D.S.G. themed cupcakes, complete with the St John’s D.S.G. Eaglets logo. “I like eagles. I like yellow. I love everything about my school,” she said. Happy birthday, Zesihe!
St Johns DSG enjoys Hoopvol
Pit Produksies, an educational theatre company who aids the education of IEB Grade 12 learners, recently visited St John’s D.S.G. to perform “Hoopvol”, this year’s Grade 12 Afrikaans set book by Derick van der Walt.
St Johns DSG Reach for a Dream Slipper Day
St John’s D.S.G. would like to thank all of the girls and their families who supported the Reach For a Dream Slipper Day on Friday, 12 May. Over R2000 was raised for the Reach For a Dream Foundation. Pictured are some of the Grade 5 girls.
St John’s Old Girls Association hosts reunions
The St John’s Old Girls’ Association hosted various Reunions at their Old Girls’ Luncheon over the St John’s Festival. The oldest Reunion Group was the Class of 1957 who were joined by past staff.
