Matthew Sates, a pupil at St Charles’ College in Pietermaritzburg, is among the SA athletes now living their Olympic dream in Tokyo. Matthew qualified as part of Team SA’s swimming selection for the Games.

News from Matt’s coach, Wayne Riddin, who is also the Swimming South Africa team coach, is that they are settling well into the Olympic village and Matt is raring to go. His first race is on Wednesday, July 28 at 1.15pm. The Olympic motto “Faster, Higher, Stronger” has been updated to “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together”, very apt in the current global circumstances.

Said St Charles College: “We look forward to positive news in the coming weeks of excellent human endeavour, great dedication and discipline, and dreams unfolding into reality. We are super-proud to have a Saints boy representing us and we are behind him all the way!”
