Quattro ROAG Series to get fresh start in 2017

NINE events. R25 000 each for the top male and female rider. A total of over 10 000 participants across 24 age categories. These are some of the numbers from the Quattro ROAG Mountain Bike Series, but what the stats don’t tell is how much the series does for the sport across the spectrum of age groups.

The Quattro ROAG Mountain Bike Series is riding into its sixth year with the opening event of the new series at Wartburg in the KZN midlands, but along with the popular tried-and-tested formula there are a couple of new innovations for 2017. The 2017 series has a new look, new logo and new colour scheme which fits in with the rebranding of ROAG, but the most exciting change for athletes is the introduction of an added bonus for trail runners.

For the first time the province’s premier mountain biking series will run in conjunction with a trail running series that will benefit competitors in both off-road endurance sports. ROAG, the online entry system which administers the entry and registration process for most mountain biking races and other endurance events in KwaZulu-Natal, started their Grand Prix-style MTB Series in 2012 with the aim of growing mountain biking and giving something back to riders and event organisers in the province.

The 2017 series kicks off with the Illovo Wartburg MTB Classic on February 11 and this traditional season opener will provide a great test of all round mountain biking skills in the forests of the KZN Midlands, as well as two exciting trail running options.

This year trail runners will have a choice of two distances at most events, under 10km and somewhere between 12 and 18km. This year there will not be any age group prizes for the trail runners and they will be competing just for the overall prize.
