Octoberfest at Kamberg Mountain Shadows

Rock night away with Serrotone

It’s time to bust out the lederhosen and dirndls.

Why? Because Fat Harry’s at Kamberg Mountain Shadows is hosting “Das fast Deutsche” Octoberfest.

Nestled in the heart of the Kamberg Valley, in the shadow of Mount Lebanon, the venue is one of the Drakensberg’s best-kept secrets.

But come October 6, you will be able to discover Kamberg Mountain Shadows’ beauty for yourself while enjoying what promises to be a rip-roaring festival of traditional German food, beer and banging tracks from Serrotone.

The band features former Spoonfeedas vocalist and songwriter Peter Guthrie, as well as Billy Kruger on drums and singer-songwriter James Robertson.

Robertson penned some of the early Spoonfeedas charting singles, including Alone, which went to Number 1 on 5fm, before leaving to form Cubic Inch, with whom he opened for Bryan Adams on his international tour.

Serrotone – Peter Guthrie, Billy Kruger and James Robertson – will be joined by trumpeter Nick Ames.

With Spoonfeedas, Guthrie had various charting singles locally and opened for bands like Muse, Velvet Revolver, Simple Plan and Metallica, while Kruger has played for big acts locally and internationally.

The three musicians will be joined by Nick Ames, one of the country’s finest trumpeters, for an afternoon set at 3.30pm, as well as two sets in the evening.

Tickets to “Das fast Deutsche” Octoberfest are R250, excluding drinks. This includes a lamb and pork spit braai, traditional German sausages, veg dishes, bread and rolls, salads, and a German dessert. Dinner will be served at 6.30pm.

Should you not want to partake in all things German, hit Fat Harry’s for its legendary “Kamburger” or build your own pizza.

There’s no Octoberfest without beer…

Kamberg Mountain Shadows is all about getting away from the grind and enjoying time in the mountains. And what better way to do so than with a beer in your hand, great food in your belly and top musos in your ear. There are also a number of hiking trails in the area and an abundance of fauna and flora in the valley, so why not make a weekend of Octoberfest.

The venue is offering a two-night accommodation special and there are camping facilities nearby.
