To improve customer and staff safety, Parklane SuperSpar in Pietermaritzburg has installed a thermal-imaging camera.
The camera detects body temperature within 0,1 degrees of accuracy and projects the video and temperature onto a computer screen at the entrance to the store.
The system is programmed to send an alert if a person’s temperature is abnormally high, providing an early-detection system to assist in controlling the spread of Covid-19.
Lesley Seethal, general manager of the store, said use of the camera had been welcomed by shoppers. “It has helped customers to feel at ease while in the store,” she said.
“We also check our staff’s temperatures every morning and evening,” Seethal said, adding, “the health and safety of our staff and customers is our number one priority.”
