Exciting news from Mpophomeni this summer is that the Mnandi funded free WiFi was switched on at the Public Library on Mandela Drive!
We hope that this will help people check their email for job applications, do research for school projects and keep in contact with fellow farmers, activists and environmentalists, and will make a real difference to life in the township. With clever firewall management we are able to ensure that no one abuses the service or downloads undesirable movies. Thank you N3 Toll Concession for sponsoring the costs of producing Mnandi to raise funds to help Mpophomeni Conservation Group be the change we want to see in the world.
“I am going to do loads of MOOCs” grinned Penz Malinga, “the free online courses are amazing.” As it was installed, Lindiwe Phikwane was all set to register with UNISA to complete her B.ED and a group of school leavers were excitedly checking their emails for news from Universities. Ntombenhle Mtambo commented “This is a good thing. So many people don’t have money for their kids to buy data and nowadays lots of the school work is done with Google.”
