KZN Summer Series for Men this weekend
KZN Summer Series for Men anticipates the weekend action in Pietermaritzburg
The KwaZulu-Natal Summer Series for Men takes place in the city of Pietermaritzburg on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 March. Event organiser, Alec Lenferna has said that preparations have gone very well so far, and that the host city is ready for the weekend.
“Its really gratifying to see the level of support shown, as well as the interest by the teams,” he said. Taking part in the series will be 29 teams from all over South Africa. “This shows that there is a desire for road cycling races of this nature and a need for it,” he added.
Lenferna mentioned that organisers have once again had tremendous support from the traffic and road departments. When chatting about the races, Lenferna said: “We are ready to go! Saturday afternoon we start at 12:30. We’re expecting this race to be pretty quick – it’s probably going to be a sprinter’s race. Sunday is 135km and a much more arduous course. The guys are going to have to work a lot harder. We have the series format in place, which means that the riders will have to actually ride hard both days in order to be an overall contender of both days.”
Lenferna also extended his gratitude to KwaZulu-Natal Sport and Recreation as well as the City of Pietermaritzburg for making the series a possibility. “It’s another step in ensuring the consolidation of Pietermaritzburg as the Bike City for Africa,” he concluded.
Although there could be some rain and showers could be predicted for the night time, race organisers are confident that there will be an excellent display of racing regardless of the conditions.
