Hats Off to you Sphelele Ntuli!
Sphele Ntuli, born and bred in Bruntville, Mooi River, KZN has done it again! Repeatedly in the Top 10 at the Vodacom Durban July Fashion competition, this year saw his “Magic” headgear earn his a first and a second place in the Hat/Fascinator category this year.
Bringing glamour to the Midlands since a very early age, Ntuli honed his creative skills at the Pietermaritzburg School of Fashion, and the Durban Academy of Fashion and his glamorous designs and creations have transformed many an occasion into pure sophisticated magic. Another accolade this year was a third place in the Hat/Fascinator Category at the Tsogo Sun Fashion Sprint held at the Golden Horse Casino in May 2017.
Says Ntuli of his inspiring design at this year’s Durban July, “My inspiration behind this innovative design was the “Colour of Magic” brief. I had so many creative ideas but settled on the “Magic Hand” idea and my model Thobeka Dhlamini turned heads every time she took to the catwalk! It caught the judges eye and we made the Top 10, and finally took second place in the Top 3. I am so delighted to make it a third year in a row – a third place in 2015 for hat/fascinator, a third place again in 2016, this time for Classic Racewear Female and then this, in 2017.”
Ntuli is quick to acknowledge certain people who have helped him in many ways, and mentions, amongst others, Mr Kees Grinwis, Sarah Richards, Amanda McCarthy from GroundCover, Stephanie Sceizei from Fern Hill Hotel, and Caversham Textiles. “I am grateful for everything,” he says.
This story sounds like one of true community spirit!
“I am one on one fashion designer, and like to work closely with my client. I do the design, draft, cut and sew and am excited about all aspects of design, whether it’s daywear for men or women, formal designs and obviously hats and fascinators. “ Sphelele Ntuli on…Sphelele Ntuli!
