Your chance to honour Nkanyiso

Help the next wave of conservationists

During his career as environmental educator, Nkanyiso Ndlela – who died recently – inspired many youngsters in the Midlands through his passion for the environment and conservation.

Nkanyiso was a prominent face at the Happy Earth Festival which this year takes place at the Botanical Gardens in Pietermaritzburg on April 19 and 20.

After finishing school Nkanyiso joined WESSA (the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) in Howick and began his journey to becoming a well-liked, respected figure in local conservation – most recently being appointed Education Manager at the KZN Crane Foundation (KZNCF) until his death in mid-March.

The festival organisers are inviting people to honour his contribution by helping another young eco-star from the community to shine. Each donation of R100 will light the way for a pupil to attend the Happy Earth Festival. Twenty-five inspiring, well established environmental education organisations will offer creative, hands-on learning activities to hundreds of pupils from schools in the KZN Midlands.

These direct experiences in nature, under the guidance of positive mentorship, are cited as the single biggest contributor leading to positive environmental behaviour and future environmental leadership.
