Why I will do splashy Fen again….

Why I will do splashy Fen again….

We found our spot on the top of a wee hill – away from the jostling and bumping of the usual campers – pitched our freshly borrowed, up to the minute camping equipment and settled into our chairs to await the “spirit of Splashy” to descend on our strained bodies. (It’s hard when your equipment is fancier than you are!)
It happened again as it always does, when the first chords wafted over the airwaves and landed in our site. The pulses quickened, the feet started tapping and a wave of youthful foolishness took over. In spite of being a generation away from the most energetic Splashy visitors, the magic of music of all flavours and styles dissolved the differences in age and we bounced and bopped alongside each other inspired by the sheer joy of watching the immense talent that was evident in the various venues. The most striking of these for me was the Open Mic – where we watched very regular looking people turn into the gods and goddesses of the future – we caught them in their innocence and beauty, before Fame and glory toss them from their pedestals.

AT Splashy 2016 there was such a vast range of music to choose from I defy anyone to have been there and not found something to quicken the heartbeat. Even people-watching is a joy at Splashy Fen – who knew a conservative “pillar of the community” type individual could behave like a disappointed seven-year-old when a certain brand of refreshment was withheld – for health reasons?
Who knew that certain of their family members would brand them “paedophiles” if they so much as stepped within a certain radius of a particular musical genre (anyone over 25 actually, not just mum and dad…)?
Who else marvelled at the peaceful intermingling of so many weird and frankly some quite wacky characters? – we experienced no aggression, no misbehaviours, (bar one or two perfectly understandable attempts to obtain some mementos of a well spent weekend.)
You didn’t have to take food, but you could.
You didn’t have to take a shower, but you could.
You didn’t even have to sleep at all, but you could.
I say bring on Splashy 2017!
