The event gives places of work the opportunity to expose young women to the plethora of employment opportunities available to them so that these young women can make informed career choices. The focus is on females as historically, females have not been afforded equal opportunities to go out there and make their mark on the world.

The day started with a welcome by the Student Relations Manager followed a full day of job shadowing and input from various staff members. Staff shared their career paths and provided relevant and realistic input about what each career entailed. The sessions were interactive and fun and the learners reciprocated by fully participating with interesting questions and comments. Students of Varsity College Pietermaritzburg also provided input about the realities of student life including finding the balance between ‘working and playing hard’.

At the end of the day, Kevin McShane, Principal of Varsity College Pietermaritzburg awarded each young lady with a certificate congratulating them on their outstanding behaviour and participation. The girls left armed with goodie bags and filled with determination to succeed. Equally, staff were left in awe of these young learners who, despite difficult circumstances, are enthusiastic about their future.
