Team ‘legal eagle’ wins inaugural Midlands Meander Golf Day

The Balgowan skies were kind to the inaugural Midlands Meander Golf Day held at Bosch Hoek Golf Club on 3rd March, with beautiful weather and great participation by local golfers. The mist and drizzle held off until the end of play – in time for an excellent dinner and a convivial prize-giving. Celebrations continued for quite some time afterwards, and in response to requests, another Golf Day is definitely pencilled into the Midlands Meander calendar for next year!

The winning four-ball featured Howick’s “legal eagle” Murray Oldfield, who with team-mates Veronica Greyvensteyn, Kevin Palmer and Neill Shearer, took the first prize on 94 points. In second spot was a local golf development team comprising Wiseman Bayeni, Sthe Zondi, Hlangeng Nkozi and Morgan Nzuzu, on an impressive score of 88 points.

Event partner Bosch Hoek Golf Club hosted the day magnificently on its newly laid Bentgrass greens. Thanks also go to supporters and the many product and prize sponsors who made the day possible.

The proceeds of the day went to the Meander’s award-winning Midlands Meander Education Project. The MMAEP is the social responsibility programme of the Midlands Meander Association, which celebrates its tenth anniversary of environmental education support this year. Eight “Bugs” or education facilitators co-teach at nineteen schools in the Midlands in four key educational areas: Environmental Education; Food Security; Libraries; Arts, Drama & Life Skills.
