St Charles College Grade 6 Chefs in the Making
For their final Afrikaans orals of the year, the Grade 6s had to talk about their favourite meal and demonstrate how to make it. The boys went all out, making some delicious dishes for their classes and teachers to sample. Some of them even dressed up as chefs to play the part.
St Charles College Pre-Primary Grandparent’s Day
Two very special days took place recently for the Pre-Primary boys of St Charles College, as the boys welcomed their grandparents to the College and demonstrated some of their lovely songs for them. They also had the opportunity to show their grandparents around Scrummies, giving them some gifts they had made.
St Charles College SABC2 Showville Winner
St Charles College Grade 11 pupil, Callum Nish entered and auditioned with his Ukuleles for the SABC2 talent show, that was visiting Winterton at the time. SABC2 was running the National Travelling Talent Show called “Showville” and he won 1st place.
St Charles College Speech Night
The highlight of the St Charles College calendar is our annual Speech Night. The Indoor Centre was completely transformed into a beautiful venue, fit for an evening celebrating all that the St Charles College community, and in particular the boys, have achieved over the past year. The Matric class of 2015 took pride of place in front of the stage, savouring their final formal function in their schooling careers. The guest speaker, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria, Professor Cheryl de la Rey, gave an insightful speech, focusing on the world of teaching and education, as well as offering words of wisdom to the Matrics regarding life at University. One of the highlights of the evening was the speech given by 2015 Head Boy, Dominic Robert. He shared some fond memories of his classmates and teachers, as well as conveying his true appreciation for his time at St Charles College. The announcement of the 2016 Prefect body was one of the most anticipated items on the programme. Congratulations to all those who were selected to be Prefects and Council Leaders, in particular, the Head Boy for 2016, Calum Nish. The evening concluded with a rousing rendition of the College’s school song that could be heard well beyond the walls of the Indoor Centre.
SCC Matrics Inducted as Old Boys
The precursor to the St Charles College Speech Night is the Senior Prize Giving ceremony. Boys throughout the Senior School were recognised for their achievements in the academic, cultural and sporting spheres. One of the highlights of this ceremony is the induction of th 2015 Matrics into the Old Boys Association, where they receive their treasured Old Boys’ ties.
St Charles College Supports Pink Drive
There were flecks of bright pink across the St Charles College campus in support of PinkDrive and Pinktober. The boys were able to purchase and wear pink shoelaces, showing their support for a very worthy cause.
St Charles College U10 Cricket Success
During the holidays, the St Charles College U10As cricket team played in two 30 over and two T20 matches at the festival hosted at Clifton Nottingham Road. The Saints showed some promising performances, which is hopefully a sign of the season to come. The team won 3 out of their 4 games on their tour.
St Charles Outward Bound
In the last week of Term 3, the St Charles College Grade 5s went on Outward Bound to Gwahumbe, in Mid Illovo. Some of their activities included a Junior Rangers Course, studying conservation, tracking, indigenous and exotic plants, snakes, frogs and doing some game watching. They spent their two nights camping in tents and being one with Nature.
Prep Gala Hosted at St Charles College
St Charles College hosted their first Prep Gala for Term 4 on Tuesday afternoon. The schools that participated were St John’s D.S.G., Clifton Nottingham Road and Cordwalles, along with the St Charles College boys. The A Squad placed 2nd overall.
SCC Hosts Inter-Schools Gala
St Charles College hosted their second and final Prep Inter-Schools gala for Term 4 on Tuesday evening. They hosted teams from St John’s D.S.G., The Wykeham Collegiate and Winterton Primary School. The St Charles College A squad placed 2nd overall.
