About Brent Meistre
Brent Meistre is a South African photographer and filmmaker and head of the photography section at Rhodes University’s Fine Arts Department.
He has exhibited both numerous one-person exhibitions, group exhibitions, both locally and internationally.
He has also been awarded numerous accolades for both his photographic and filmic work, including; being one of eight photographers on the Daimler Chrysler Award for Contemporary Photography in South Africa, and for receiving the first NNelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum’s Biennale Award. His work has been featured in the Bamako Photo Biennale in Mali, the International Black Film Festival in Canada, and the Kunstvlaai: Festival of Independents.
His work has also been shown on Making Way: Contemporary Art from China and South Africa and his SOJOURN project was featured on the Head-On: Photography Festival in Australia and the Pingyao Photo Festival in China.
In 2013 his extensive Sojourn Project was exhibited on street poles across Cape Town as a part of the Terminal GIPCA LAND Project and featured on the Thessaloniki Photo Biennale in Greece. This body of work has been shown across South Africa and recently won him the ABSA Visual Artists Award for the Vrystaat Arts Festival.

Anyone who has spent any time in this area will know just how enormous the opportunities are for  beautiful landscape photography.  This is a place that will make even beginner photographers astound themselves with the sheer glory of their photographs.
