School Quiz engages scholars

Maritzburg College are the winners for the annual Varsity College Schools Quiz, 2014. The morning was filled with excitement, anticipation and healthy competition. The team coming second is King Edward High School with Russell High School in third place. The three teams were tied with the same scores and the tie – breaker questions decided the winning team. All teams that entered arrived on the day and were in high spirits.

Prizes included for the first place, R35000 Varsity College bursary, R400 cash from SAAIA and R4000 in mall vouchers. Second place included a R25000 Varsity College bursary, R240 in cash from SAAIA and R2000 in mall vouchers. Third place won a R15000 Varsity College bursary, R160 in cash from SAAIA and R1000 in mall vouchers.

However the School Quiz would not be possible if were not for the continued and valued support of the participating schools and sponsors. Our appreciation and thanks go out to each of you and we at Varsity College look forward to continuing the School Quiz journey with you.”

21 local high schools and 35 teams took part in the event that was hosted at St Charles College. Competing schools sent their representative team of four learners to try their skills and test their knowledge in the categories of General Knowledge, Sport, Politics & Business, Popular Culture, Arts/History/Literature and Environmental/Geography.
