SA the Good News Celebrating Madiba

The Meander Chronicle is an avid follower of South Africa the Good News, edited by Steuart Pennington.  This week the newsletter focuses on the great Madiba, in view of the promotion of taking 67 minutes to “make a difference’ and commemorate his life.  It’s a valuable and relevant website and newsletter – do subscribe!  In the meantime, here’s to sharing the good news …

July 18th is a global celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and the legacy he left for mankind.
We are urged to take 67 minutes ‘time-out’ to do something to commemorate his life and make a small difference.  Some argue we have ‘lost the plot’ – that Mandela’s life deserves much more than 67 minutes of ‘doing good’ once a year.
I wonder what the great man himself would have thought.
In the only face-to-face meeting I had with him (1992 at Lanseria Airport – he was off to confer degrees at the University of the North, I was off to the bush – we chatted over a toasted sandwich!) the impression I have is that he would be deeply pleased, and humbled, by the fact that the world’s people were honouring him, no matter by how much or how little.

MADIBA – A six part review.

My contribution is to briefly describe the six passages of his life as is described by the Mandela Exhibition at the Apartheid Museum,  Steuart Pennington    Read the full newsletter
