Rotary and Rosetta Ratepayers Working Together in Service of Their Community

From being overgrown and neglected, the Rosetta Village Dam and surrounding area has been transformed into a lovely restful haven for residents and visitors. Many hours of planning, volunteer effort and joint funding has gone into repairing the dam wall, weed removal from the dam and building of market stalls, and work on the project is ongoing.

The area also serves as a lively and popular community recreation space. It has become home to the village market every alternate Saturday, ‘Logs’ gatherings on Friday evenings, annual Carols by Candlelight and Craft Beer Fest, as well as other community initiatives.

Passers-by on the R103 will have noticed a newly erected fenced area and tunnel in the Ntuli Village close to the dam. Although this project is funded by Rotary in terms of equipment, fencing, water supply etc, all the work is done by Ntuli community volunteers. Progress has been slow but steady in empowering the villagers to grow their own vegetables.
A group of ladies representing the Ratepayers of Rosetta has been volunteering at the Sibonokuhle School outside Rosetta, as the school is severely understaffed and underfunded. They assist with teaching, have set up and man a small library and obtained donations of books and equipment from the Rosetta community.

The Rotary club has upgraded the school driveway with the enthusiastic help of senior pupils from the school and donated toys, musical instruments and stationary to the junior classes. The club is currently engaged in a major fundraising project aimed at introducing computer assisted Mathematics and English learning programs in due course.
