Rector transition at Michaelhouse

Michaelhouse Rector will not renew contract at end of 2017

An announcement was made to the staff and the learners this morning (14 August 2017) that Greg Theron, Rector of Michaelhouse, has made a decision to move on from Michaelhouse at the scheduled conclusion of his current contract at the end of the year.

Chairman of the Board of Governors Anthony Hewat said: “Greg’s five year tenure has seen Michaelhouse at an all-time peak academically, deliver some of its finest sport and cultural achievements, with a record demand, with a sound strategy, and well on its way down a transforming capital expenditure programme. We celebrate this and thank Greg for his service which continues to the end of the calendar year as Rector. Long-serving Deputy Paul Fleischack will act as Interim Rector for the period up to a full-time successor starting; with the selection and appointment process expected to extend into 2018.”

Greg Theron said that his decision had taken careful thought over several months: “These five years have been an intense time of involvement, personal growth and wonderful people. As a family we feel though that change is due in our lives and I approached the Chairman last week with my decision not to renew my contract at the end of the year.
The strategic plan is well understood in all stakeholder bodies and Michaelhouse is now poised to take its implementation to a new level. I look forward to watching progress in years to come and thank the Michaelhouse community for the great opportunity of being its fifteenth Rector.”

Letters from the Rector and Chairman to parents and other stakeholders is posted on the school’s website: www.michaelhouse.org
