“Pinkman” for Pink Drive

“Pinkman” for Pink Drive.

To continue where we left off with the story, the Maritzburg City Marathon… At the end of February I took part in the race, wearing the morphsuit and cape. The cool weather was in our favour. From the start there were comments and queries as to the outfit… We started near Harry Gwala Stadium and had a winding course of two laps through Pietermaritzburg, passing the start of Comrades Marathon and the City Hall twice along the way. This added to the feel of the race, making me feel the significance of the run. I had a lot of support along the route with people on the side-lines shouting, “Go Pinkman!” and asking, “Did you lose a bet?”, and “Is it your bachelor party?” These interactions and comments moved me forward and was encouragement for me and the other runners as I seemed to serve as motivation as well as some people’s timing marker.

The last few kilometres of the race were very different to me due to support and encouragement, none of it had to be self-created in my mind and it all pushed me through… I finished in the Comrades qualifying cut-off time and will be lining up on 29 May in the “CC” or Comrades Charity batch!!!
Let’s all remember the marathon that people diagnosed with cancer face and that they often need some cheerleaders to support them. Early detection makes a big difference and everyone should be checking for signs, to make the “marathon” a little easier.
I would like to encourage people to donate and for businesses to challenge each other. The link to follow is; https://secure.onreg.com/onreg2/personal/profile.php?eventid=2921&recordid=2496 or on Facebook, Fergus Snow’s Pink Drive Comrades 2016
