Old Mutual Sunday Tribune Midlands Mudrun – such fun!
A cold wet day in November saw over 300 individuals gather at the Racefood Head Quarters in Merrivale Heights, KZN Midlands to participate in an exciting Wild Series obstacle course event, the Old Mutual Sunday Tribune Midlands Mudrun. This 5km, fun filled obstacle course (consisting of 21 obstacles) was launched in July 2014 and all funds raised at this event go towards the conservation of the Karkloof (Midlands, KZN).
This event also incorporates a shorter 2km, kid friendly course for 6 – 12 year olds into the day’s activities – and this truly makes the Mudrun fit for the whole family. The participation categories include taking part as an individual, a team of boys/men or girls/ladies, mixed teams and school teams.
The first individuals to complete the race were Brett Binnekade in the men’s category and Bianca Westhorpe-Pottow came in first for the ladies. A school team consisting of Maritzburg College, Pietermaritzburg Girls High and St. Anne’s pupils took 1st place in the schools race, walking away with Makro vouchers to the value of R 5 000, and the first team overall prize was awarded to Team Moreland!
To end off the exciting day a prize giving and lucky draw was held. Prizes included vouchers and other goodies from Parklane Spar, Frosties, Wedgewood, Karkloof Canopy Tours, Standeaven Brewery, Coffeeberry Café and Dixon Catering. More than 30 individuals walked away with amazing prizes and fun was had by all.
Special thanks must go out to Ethembeni Place of Hope, Karkloof Conservancy and the Racefood team for volunteering to help the Wildlands team throughout the day. Old Mutual, Sunday Tribune, Racefood and Jonssons – thank you for your ongoing support in raising awareness and funds for conservation.
