Mick and Sally Haigh of Cafe Bloom have always lived the same truth. Life is creative, organic, innovative, instinctive … truthful I guess. Their Cafe has grown since it’s roots in the small space behind the Spar at the Sherwood Centre in Nottingham Road but it has evolved into a much-loved centre of creative excellence … in food, art and sustainable living.
The Haigh spirit of innovation and goodness has now touched the coffee offering and Mick is delighted to announce, after much research, deep conversation and Barista training that the Truth has been launched in the Midlands! Cafe Bloom will now be serving Truth Coffee with it’s country fare. The Meander Chronicle was invited to savour the difference, and get the latest from Mick and son Joachim, who has some innovations of his own to offer too!

Mick Haigh: We are proud to announce that Truth coffee is now pouring at Cafe Bloom. What an incredible and exciting journey for us and our baristas ! We all flew to Cape Town this month to learn and experience first hand the art of pulling espresso from a coffee bean with narrative . Richard , Jose and David of Truth Coffee Buitenkant Street Cape Town travel to the farms of coffee growers around the world to roast and cup ( cupping is sampling by brewing and tasting ) beans fresh from the lands , thus securing highest quality beans and a relationship with the growers.The green beans are then shipped back to Cape Town for roasting in their repurposed oil burning roasting machine . Their conviction , skill and enthusiasm for the bean is very inspiring ! We spent the day in their roastery and cafe learning absorbing and learning some more until we felt we could not absorb any more information, then there was just so much more . This is an industry of many exquisite details. What we now brew at Cafe Bloom is this carefully grown and harvested , perfectly roasted bean which delivers a clean , delicate , true coffee flavour so naturally sweet , no sugar required. Thanks to the fantastic courier network in South Africa we get our beans day after roasting , 1 or 2 times a week . So freshness and integrity is uncompromized .

Joachim Haigh, son of Mick, is following in his father’s footsteps in creativity and innovation.
