New Hanover Prep enjoys musical theatre
At New Hanover Prep, the art of musical theatre is used as a vehicle to develop healthy, confident, well-rounded kids who have a sense of their value in the world. It provides a unique educational experience that nourishes the body, mind and spirit and creates an environment for kids to be able to interact, work together and learn from each other.

This week the Grade Six and Seven children were involved in a theatre performance of “Robin Hood and the New Hanover Hoodies” followed by the Grade Threes who became “The First Kids in Space!”
More than just participating in theatre performances, children came away with the ability to integrate their experiences with musical theatre in all other areas of their life with expanded co-operation skills, higher self-esteem, enhanced reading skills, increased co-ordination of left-brain/right-brain activity, evidenced in rhythm, musicality, and movement as well as a respect and tolerance for each other’s differences.

The aim of mini sport festivals is to expose children to the different sport codes and for them to have fun on the sport field! New Hanover Prep hosted a mini hockey and soccer festival. The soccer was structured slightly differently in that the teams were made up of a combination of Wartburg and New Hanover boys, who played in mixed teams against one another. It was rather refreshing to take away the inter-school rivalry at this age, and to see the boys enjoying their soccer and making new friends.

New Hanover Prep – The World beyond the Classroom
At New Hanover Prep we believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development.
Over the past term all the classes have enjoyed a variety of educational excursions providing rich opportunities for discovery. The Grade Sixes studied various ecosystems in the vicinity and the Grade Sevens toured the local UCL sugar mill to discover how sugar cane is processed.
