On Thursday, 30th November NHP held their annual Recognition Ceremony. For the first time the event took place in the new indoor centre, and it was wonderful to have so many friends and family there to celebrate the 2017 year. The highlight of the event was the Grade 7 ‘special awards’. The recipients of these awards were as follows:
Academic House Trophy: Duiker
Grade 7 Academic Excellence Trophy: Shared by Calvin Freese and Ben Hough
Courage in Adversity: Nita Minnie
NHP Sporting Values Trophy: Ben Hough
Headmaster’s Award: Shared by Ben Hough and Nondumiso Mvubu

Growing up in today’s world presents a unique set of demands for children. The need for cultural awareness is steadily increasing as a means of fostering harmonious coexistence between people.

Diversity activities teach young children to respect, appreciate and celebrate the differences in all people. This term the Grade Threes at New Hanover Prep have been studying some of the different cultural aspects of people around the world. They shared their experiences at our annual International Festival where they dressed up in national costumes, sang popular songs and anthems from a variety of countries, performed dances, recited facts and sampled traditional food together with parents and friends.
By virtue of having exposure to cultural learning, they will have a social advantage in today’s increasingly interconnected and globalised world.
