New Chamber Choir In Pietermaritzburg
Exchanging voice coaching at the University of Stellenbosch to invest in the music life of the midlands in January 2015, Riaan Oosthuizen and Elsa Coetzee will be an undisputed asset to the choral and vocal scene of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. An exciting project driven by this formidable couple with their impressive CV’s that span from the Unisa “Role of Honour” and B.Mus Cum Laude, to solo performances with Capetonian orchestras will be the founding of a Midlands Chamber Choir.
The Midlands Chamber Choir will be a mixed choir of 24 adult members with the aim of singing rewarding programmes of choral music whilst also enjoying the social interaction with other singers and choirs. This will entail the performance of different genres of music, both sacred and secular. The ideal candidates will be passionate about singing, able to read music easily, have training in solo singing/ ample choir experience, and be able to sing independently. Members of this choir can look forward to vocal training that is innovative, trendy, and designed to ensure freedom of phonation in a pleasant, safe environment.
The choir’s first project will be the performance of the John Rutter’s Gloria and Mass for the Children with organ, percussion and chamber orchestra in a joint effort with the Hilton College Chamber Choir, Epworth Cantabile, and the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Choir. The choir will be coordinated by Jaco Dippenaar and interested singers are encouraged to arrange an audition by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
