Camperdown in Kwa-Zulu Natal will host this year’s Nedbank Green Mile Spectator Spot at the Comrades Marathon, taking place on Sunday, 2 June 2013.

Located 26kms from the finish line, the Nedbank Green Mile Spectator Spot is the only official race viewing area for the 2013 race and will be open from 08h00.  Spectators are welcome to take advantage of this vantage point along the race route to cheer on family and friends, while being entertained by live performances for the entire family.

Patrick Baransky, Sponsorship Manager at Nedbank says, “This is the 11th year running that Nedbank has created a Spectator Spot for race supporters.”

“The Comrades Marathon is one of South Africa’s most iconic events, and attracts athletes from all over the world. We’re honoured to support the race by creating this safe and fun space for spectators to cheer on athletes, giving them the chance to be a part of the wonderful spirit of togetherness that has become synonymous with this iconic race,” added Baransky.

Nedbank would like to encourage the spirit of togetherness by giving everyone the opportunity to display their national pride, making the Spectator Spot an even more colourful affair.

Spectators visiting the Nedbank Green Mile Spectator Spot are encouraged to either bring their national flag on the day, to dress in green and gold to show support for South African athletes or to wear their home country’s national colours.  Visitors can follow @nedbanksport on Twitter and tweet #NedbankGreenMile with their favourite and most colourful pictures of the day, or Like the Nedbank Sport page on Facebook and upload fun updates.

The entertainment programme is packed with live bands and 2 DJs.  Other live performances will include dancers, a steel drum and marimba band, Scottish bag pipes, the Sharkettes and a troupe of drum majorettes, not to mention cheerleaders. Proceedings will be MC’d by Katego Maboe from SABC3’s Espresso show, and the entertainment line-up will run from 09h00 to 14h00 on race day.

A secure Kids Zone will be on hand for the smaller spectators, with jumping castles, clowns, balloon artists, puppet shows and a creative zone available to keep the little ones entertained.  The Kids Zone opens at 08h00 on the day.

While spectators are relaxing with the kids or catching a quick bite to eat at the many food and beverage vendors, all the race action will be live on a big screen at the Nedbank Green Mile Spectator Spot.  Nothing will be missed!  Spectators are also encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets, sunscreen and a picnic basket to take full advantage of the area.

There is no charge to gain entry to the Spectator Spot, which is open from 08h00 – 14h00 on Sunday, 2 June 2013.  Ample parking will be made available with car guards on hand to direct traffic.  Visitors can plug in the GPS co-ordinates in their navigation devices, S 29º 43’ 38.28”, E 30º 32’ 25.44.
