National Polio and Measles Campaign

kzn-dept-of-health-logo2Bruntville – The Department of Health KZN: Bruntville CHC will from Monday conduct a polio and measles campaign for children living in Mooi River and its catchment areas.

From 29 April to 28 June 2013, health workers will be visiting crèches, pre-schools, schools, community halls and mobile clinics, where they will be giving measles injections and polio drops to as many children between the ages of zero and five years.

Round 1 of the campaign will run from 29 April to 17 May 2013. Round 2 will run from 17 May to 28 June 2013.

“Altogether, 95% of districts and sub-districts are expected to be covered for measles in Round 1, and at least 90% for polio in Round 1 and 2. Measles injections and polio drops will be given to all children irrespective of their immunisation status,” according to the immunisation field guide.

It added that the campaign targets particular children who have never been immunised during routine immunisation sessions.
The polio and measles doses will act as boosters if a child has already been fully immunised
