Maritzburg College takes Honours

Dusi Champs
Maritzburg College has won the Unlimited Dusi Schools Trophy proving once again that they are undeniably the top canoeing school in South Africa.

Travis Wilson was the first U18 paddler to finish at Blue Lagoon placing 19th overall, a great result considering that this was hailed as the most competitive Dusi ever with 9 former winners contesting the race. Travis also beat the junior record by just under 9 minutes. Damon Stamp place second and Travis’ twin brother Tyler placed third in the U18 category.

In celebration of their 150th birthday, College also had a special batch made up of current pupils, staff, Old Collegians and friends of College. The school has had a long and rich history with the Dusi Canoe Marathon. A total of 7 Old Collegians have, between them, won the Dusi 19 times in both the K1 and K2 categories. College boys consistently top the U18 category. The Dusi Canoe Marathon has been a very import part of canoeing at Maritzburg College and has without a doubt been the driving force behind the continued growth of the school’s canoe club.

Graeme “Gudjie” Dixon who matriculated in 1976 completed his 39th consecutive Dusi, an amazing feat and one of the all-time greats of College Canoeing.
