Three Pietermaritzburg squash players have been selected to represent South Africa on the U19 Schools Squash Tour to Malaysia in June. Having played several ranking tournaments this year, culminating in the SA Closed in JHB in the first weekend of the holidays, all three girls were delighted to have made the cut.

Noel Lee, Anele Ngubane and Ana Chemaly have been representing KZN and have made the SA top 10 annually since they were juniors. They also play in the local Midlands Men and Ladies Leagues.

The Malaysian tour will involve playing test matches against teams from Hong Kong, Malaysia and Australia, as well as playing in the Penang International Junior Squash Championships, and include three days of coaching at the Nicol David Centre. The tour has been organised and will be accompanied by veteran squash champion and coach, Sally White, who has played an integral role in developing girls squash in KZN over the past thirty years.

The cost of the tour is significant and the girls, together with their parents and friends, are currently planning fund raising ventures, one of which will include a doubles and mixed doubles squash tournament in May. However, we are appealing to any businesses, companies or individuals to assist with financial sponsorship to enable the girls to go on tour.
