Earth Day celebrations

Over sixty excited Grade 4 & 5 children gathered at King’s School in Nottingham Road to share in a creative range of Earth Day activities on Friday 22 April. The school invited Grade 4 & 5 children and teachers from Shea O’Connor Combined, Thembelihle Primary and Esphetwini to participate in a host of exciting outdoor activities to celebrate Earth Day. Partnering with the KZN Crane Foundation, Water Explorers, Midlands Meander Education Project and Patterns and Proof facilitators the school provided a wonderful natural playground for learning and exploring a range of topics. The enthusiastic children skipped and ran to each outdoor station to learn about water testing at the small dam, habitat exploration and clay work, drama through storytelling, natural building techniques and water based mathemathics. Kings School earth Day 2 may16Creative 30 minute practical lessons had the children and their teachers thoroughly engaged and engrossed. By the end of the action packed morning the children and their teachers had made new friends, engaged in a variety of hands-on activities and were full of innovative ideas to take back to their schools. Mud streaked smiling children with sparkling eyes all agreed that Earth Day should happen every day!
