Joyce sets new record for canopy tour

Age just a number for plucky 96-year-old

Ninety-six-year-old Joyce Evans last week broke her own record as the oldest person to have done a canopy tour at Karkloof Canopy Tour.

Adrenaline rush

Joyce was part of a group of 21 elderly folk from Westville Homes Dawncliffe who visited Karkloof Canopy Tour for an adrenaline rush and a fun day out on June 18. The day provided these guests with a rare opportunity to get out into a pristine environment and experience something outside of their usual daily routines.

The excursion was organised by GECCO, a NPO based in Westville. The folk were treated to a Canopy Tour, a nature trail and a cooked lunch afterwards – with loads of coffee and cake!

Joyce, who previously held the record for the oldest guest to have done a Canopy Tour in Karkloof, at 94, smashed her own record.

“Thank you very much for the most memorable day of my life!” commented guest Alla Balsdon.

“A big, big thank you for organising this outing for us today… it was exciting, awesome, and we were spoilt rotten,” said Mabel Marchant.

Jack and Joan Johnson said, “This was like being on a second honeymoon!”

The hosts commented: “Karkloof Canopy Tour wishes to thank everyone who made this event such a success, with specific thanks to our staff for going that extra mile, and to the guests who showed such patience and understanding when your own Canopy Tour had been delayed.”
