Hilton College achieves in Maths OlympiadHilton College Maths Olympiad jul16
Congratulations to Shingai Mushonga and Thomas Little who have been selected into Round 3 of the Olympiad. Only 100 candidates are accepted into Round 3 of the Olympiad from all Southern African Schools. Well done, we are very proud of you.

 

 

 
Hilton College Paddler conquers Berg

Hamish Lovemore completed the epic Berg Canoe Marathon. It is raced over 4 stages covering 240km from Paarl to Velddrif on the West coast. It is one of the longest and toughest competitive paddling challenges around. The first day is 62 km, second day 46 km, third day 75 km and the fourth day 60 km. Hamish was the first U18 and came out 15th overall. Well done Hamish we are very proud of you.

Congratulations to Michael Noyce on winning first prize in the Royal Society of South Africa School Essay Competition. An extract from the letter received states:
We are pleased to inform you that one of your pupils has won a prize in our competition this year.
The Winner of the prize sponsored by the Claude Leon Foundation, is :
Michael Noyce, Grade 12 whose excellent essay in the category ‘‘What advances in robotics and artificial intelligence could impact on youth employment in South Africa?’’ won the first prize of R2 000. His essay was also judged as one of the top two in the Competition and will, with his permission, be published in the Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa.
Not only that, the School will be awarded one of the two competition Trophies as well. The Marker commented: Good introduction followed by headed sub-sections in the essay. Identifies the relationship between AI and Robotics and discusses their evolution. His conclusion looks at both the positive and negative aspects of the subject and proposes ways the negatives can be addressed.

It was wonderful to welcome our grandparents to the school on Saturday 23 July. This is a very special day in our calendar and our boys appreciate and look forward to having their grandparents join them for the day. It was fantastic to have such a good turnout despite the very cold weather.

Congratulations to our Marimba Band on their outstanding achievements. They won the Open Large 2 “In the Mix” category, and the OL3 Strictly Classical category and were placed 2nd in the OL1 category.  They were placed third overall in the OPEN PRESTIGE CATEGORY where they competed against professionals. The top two bands were from Zimbabwe so they were the highest placed South African band.  Well done boys we are very proud of you.
