Binoculars, check-list, field guide, sun-block, hats … a number of our scholars and teachers braved an early start recently to catch the proverbial early bird as they participated in the Birding Big Day, going far afield to identify as many species of our feathered friends as possible. After spotting a multitude of different birds, they came back happy but tired, having done their bit to contribute to the annual census of bird species.

Graduation and the ABC Schützenfest are two established Hermannsburg traditions for the Little Oaks and Grade 1s and this year 20 ‘Little Oaks’ graduated and said ‘good-bye’ to the other Kindergarten scholars with a dramatisation of the fairy tale ‘Sleeping Beauty’, which they rounded off with rendition of the song of Sleeping Beauty from the German play. A slide-show, with a commentary from Ms Micayla Reineke and Ms Annette Gathmann, showed off all the great moments of this year’s experiences in the Kindergarten. Our ‘Little Oaks’ looked so smart and proud in their graduation gowns as they were handed their graduation certificates, whereafter they were welcomed with the poem ‘Opposite day’ by Ken Nesbitt, performed by the Grade 1 scholars. We wish our ‘Little Oaks’ all the best as they go forward into Grade 1, and express a special word of thanks to Mrs Uta Malzahn, who so ably leads the Little Oaks Kindergarten.
