Once I started making my own herbal products, I realised that there was no way I was going to be able to make quality products without using essential oils. So for the next few months I will feature some of my favourite oils.

EucalyptusEucalyptus globulus Originated in Australia it is now grown almost all over the world. The leaves are usually steam distilled to produce the oil which has a clear, sharp and piercing aroma.
Antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, these qualities help to heal wounds ulcers, light burns, cuts, abrasions and sores effectively. Add 20 drops Eucalyptus oil to 25ml base cream and use it to soothe and protect an open wound or irritated area from developing infections.

Cicatrisant, it heals wounds quickly and helps diminish the scar marks and after spots left by eruptions, boils and acne.
Respiratory problems? For treating non-bacterial sinusitis mix 10 drops eucalyptus oil to 25ml carrier oil and rub under nose and around sinus areas of the face. AVOID EYE AREA
Gargles of oil mixed with warm water are effective in treating sore throats.
For coughs, cold and flu, massage10 drops eucalyptus oil to 25ml carrier oil and rub onto the chest and throat area
Insecticide, Rub some oil on the body to repel insects.
Anti-spasmodic,analgesic,anti-inflammatory, use for joint and muscle pain, 20 drops oil with 25ml carrier oil massaged in a circular motion on the affected areas of the body will help to relieve stress and pain, recommended to patients suffering from rheumatism, lumbago, sprained ligaments and tendons, stiff muscles, aches, fibrosis and even nerve pain.
Febrifuge, Eucalyptus oil is also used for treating fever and reducing body temperature. Combined with peppermint oil and sprayed on the body as a mixture of a deodorant and a temperature reducer.
Stimulant, Eucalyptus oil removes exhaustion and mental sluggishness, to stimulate mental activity and increase blood flow to the brain, commonly employed in some classrooms to increase student performance

Precautions: Do not use oil on children under the age of 12, and special care with the elderly.
Contra-indicated for use in pregnancy and lactation, do not take internally.
The oil may irritate asthmatics.
Being a stimulant Eucalyptus may increase the speed of elimination of other medicinal compounds.
Contra-indicated for use in cases of pre-existing inflammation of the alimentary tract, liver and kidneys, low or high blood pressure
