Great Kid’s Carnival with Rotary
The Rotary Club of Pietermaritzburg recently successfully held its annual Kid’s Carnival at the National Botanical Garden in the city.
Over a hundred disadvantaged children from the Wheatfield Mission Sunday School, Sunlit Gardens Home and Asizamafuthi Home along with residents of John Peattie House were treated to a full morning of fun and games. Apart from the wide variety of games, supervised by members of the Alexandria and Linpark high school’s Interact Clubs and senior girls from The Wykeham Collegiate everyone was treated to a range of treats, refreshments and lunch. At the end of the morning each child received their very own teddy bear. The bears were sponsored by members of the public, the majority being people who attend All Saints United Church.
When asked to comment on the event, coordinating Rotarian Duncan Andrew said ‘Rotary would like to thanks all those who made the event the success it was. Garden’s Curator Allen Nene make facilities available free of charge, while many Rotarians and Interactors put the programme together and made sure everything went off smoothly – even the weather was kind to us! It is gratifying to see our children having such a lot of fun. We look forward to next year’s event as it will be our tenth!’
