The Cordwalles boys had a blast building their raft on their recent Great Adventure

Recently the Grade 6 pupils from Cordwalles Preparatory School left on their environmental trip for The Great Adventure. Their journey took them by foot from Cordwalles to Hilton Hotel where they fetched their bikes and rode through the Hilton College Estate to the Umgeni River.

The boys were away in the bush for three nights learning important skills to survive in the wilderness and the importance of team work, friendship, respect and the mind-set to never give up. The boys returned by bike to Hilton Hotel and by foot back to Cordwalles – a journey of 75km. Although they were exhausted, they were very proud of their individual and team achievements.

One of the highlights on the school calendar card for the Grade 5 boys at Cordwalles Preparatory School is their two nights away at Roselands. The boys learnt a lot about themselves and their friends especially when they participated in a muddy obstacle course and had to find the courage to take a leap off the foofy slide into the dam. The boys returned tired, smelly but most importantly, closer as friends and team mates!

The Cordies Families concept at Cordwalles Preparatory School is one of boys building relationships in small groups, each made up of boys from Grades 1-7. There are two or three boys from each grade in every Cordies Family. All the boys in the family are from the same school house, as is the teacher assigned to the family. There are approximately twenty Cordies families. The teacher assigned to each family is there to lead the discussion and encourage each boy to participate in the discussion. Some of the topics which have been discussed are: Positive role models, Giving, Self Discipline, Manners Maketh Man, Outreach – 67 Minutes,Values and so much more.

In celebration of World Book Day 2016, all 371 boys including the teachers at Cordwalles Preparatory School took on the persona of a favourite book character. Great fun was had by all the boys who put so much effort and thought into dressing up. Reading is certainly alive and well at Cordwalles!
