Pinkman completes Comrades 2016

Weaving through Pietermaritzburg, a crowd already forming to support! Enjoying the fresh legs I set up a comfortable pace, passing landmarks in good time. Camperdown behind me before I start feeling the first signs of Comrades and cramps start rearing their head, but still I am going strong. Drawing closer to halfway I remember how steep the Inchanga and Drummond hills are. Halfway is a buzz of excitement with a huge amount of cheering for the Pinkman, some comments and “ahhhs” when they read the tribute on my cape, “In Memory & Honour of Granny…”
Down Fields Hill, starting to feel the finish getting closer… The crowds pushing me forward, runners motivating each other, Comrades alive and well! With 15km to go a pain starts in my leg but I have to push on, push to the last 2km where there is a massive roar as I pass, crowds in their thousands! With the final turn into Kingsmead all pain is replaced with adrenalin and elation! The commentator welcomes me in by name and I have the biggest sense of accomplishment as I cross the line, 11h13min…Comrades completed!! As it turns out with a stress fracture from 15km to go…
I only managed this through all the support I got from my Coach Driekie Black and Biokineticist Bronwhynn Hodgkinson! The only gain for you was my success so…Thank you!!!
