A Boost for Music In The Hills (MiTH)

MiTH TO SPONSOR LOCAL ARTISTS

As a young, but proud, member of the KZN Midlands music community, MiTH (Music in The Hills, www.mith.co.za) is pleased to give back to that community by announcing two sponsorships for 2016:
· Nosihe Zulu, a talented Midlands musician and regular performer at MiTH, who will receive sponsorship towards her 2016 tuition fees for a degree in music at UKZN. (See https://soundcloud.com/nosihe-zulu)
· The KZN Midlands Youth Choir, where one disadvantaged child’s 2016 membership fee will be covered. (See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI0tDCQ8Ing)

In total, the sponsorships are worth just over R10,000 – which is being split equally between the two beneficiaries. We have been using our small income to pay off the musical gear used by performers at the club. Now that we have most of what we need, we wanted to find a worthwhile way to help build local music talent.

Nosi Zulu, UKZN music student: “I would like to thank the MITH team for my sponsorship! I am ecstatic about the year and believe that you will not be disappointed by investing in me. I am honoured to have been given such an opportunity to do what I love and cannot wait to share more musical experiences with the MITH stage. It’s only the beginning!”

William Silk, KZN Midlands Youth Choir master: “The (KZN Midlands Youth) Choir brags a membership fully representative of the New South Africa, and choristers are consequently drawn from a broad spectrum of schools and backgrounds from the KZN Midlands area. Our choristers bring with them an equally wide range of musical influences and talents, making for a diverse and interesting mix to our choir. Our current membership stands at 65, comprised of learners from 17 schools. The aim of the choir is to give children in grades 8 to 12 the opportunity to expand their musical horizons through singing music more challenging than that which they might ordinarily encounter in their school choirs. The repertoire is representative of the Western and Southern African choral traditions on particular, but includes in addition, music from other parts of the world. Thank you for the wonderful sponsorship.”
