New Hanover Prep welcomes parents

New Hanover Prep welcomes parents

New Hanover Prep aims to create a school environment that welcomes parents to participate in their children’s learning. When parents are involved, students achieve more and exhibit positive attitudes and behaviour.

In the first week the school provides an opportunity for fathers and sons to enjoy a morning of cricket together while the mothers and daughters play tennis. This is followed by an informal picnic.

New Hanover Prep Gala
At New Hanover Prep swimming provides the health benefits of a vigorous workout as well as the fun and thrill of competition. In swimming children get the benefit of participating as an individual while developing the skills needed to excel in a team environment.
The children at NHP take part in various galas in the first term, the highlight being the Inter-House Gala. This year the children again excelled themselves with records being broken in the Mixed U10 relay as well as the Mixed U12 relay. Chloë Barnard is to be congratulated on being awarded with not only the Style Cup and Senior Victrix Ludorum trophy, but also on breaking a record in the Girls Open 100m Freestyle race. Ryan Dobeyn was the proud recipient of the Senior Victor Ludorum while Liam Freese and Bianca Hillermann were worthy winners of the Junior Victor and Victrix Ludorum. Rayne Singh was chosen as the most improved swimmer of the season. Rietbok won the gala convincingly by 51 points.

The annual fundraising Duck Race also takes place at the inter house gala. The Grade 1 and 2 children lined the side of the pool and kicked and splashed until the ducks reached the other side!

New Hanover Prep Gr 7's enjoyed some Hella Hella happy!

New Hanover Prep Gr 7’s enjoyed some Hella Hella happy!

On Monday the 8th February, the loud and excited NHP Grade 7’s went to Hella Hella, on the Umkomaas, for their 3 day, leadership outing. As well as having lots of fun, they learnt a lot. They learnt to push themselves, yet at the same time discover their limitations. Cliff jumping, foofie sliding and the Umkomaas rapid/slides were a few of the highlights.

Valentines tea was a special day to celebrate LOVE

The New Hanover Pre Primary phase hosted a Mother’s Valentines tea on Tuesday, 16 February. Mothers, aunts and grannies were welcomed with a meet-and-greet tea and thereafter were treated to a few fun songs from the children. The moms and children spent the rest of the morning enjoying some fun activities together, including painting, making valentines pot plants and of course exploring the wonderful playground!
