At last weekend’s Drak Challenge Canoe Marathon, the race committee awarded Daniel Dillon (C Block) the prestigious Alec Rennie Fellowship Trophy. This trophy is awarded to a paddler who demonstrates fellowship on the river by giving assistance to a fellow distressed paddler. Daniel forfeited his day 1 race to stop on the river and assist a fellow junior paddler whose boat had become entrapped – thereby demonstrating the racing ethic so typical of Alec Rennie (after whom the award is named) who was sadly lost to the canoeing fraternity a few years ago in a plane crash.

Michaelhouse’s Jean van der Westhuyzen came first in the U18 age group and finished 4th overall in the race.
